Fuze box replacement

Morning peeps I`m having problems with a melting fuze and really would like to replace the fuze box in the glove box of my S2. I saw Chiefyo had a nice sealed unit under the bonnet containing the fuzes, it looked great and easier to access. Has anyone replaced their fuze box ? And what was used ? Thank`s for any input fellas.

What's happened to you since you became a Chim owner?

Peeps, Fuze, fellas? You've not been kneeling on your engine sniffing the fumes again have you?

I must stop kneeling on my plenum, thanks for the link, it gives me a starting point :thumbup I have a few electrical problems on the S, the voltmeter is reading only 11 volts, but I`m getting 14 at the alternator. The fan only runs on the override switch, I`ve fitted a new fan temperature switch too I need to get a new headlight and battery, the joys of maintaining an S.

I think this Modular System (scroll down a bit) would make a neat job if you're pretty handy at soldering/crimping? Doesn't look a million miles away from what TVR used originally?

I'll leave you to chose your favoured method of attaching terminals but if you're not careful I reckon you could cause more issues than you solve




No intention to doubt your technical abilities, this could well be "childs play" for you but there again could turn into a nightmare !

Was this the system you used for yours Mike? It certainly looked the business.

No, mine is the original, with a couple of extra bits from a scrap unit clipped on, then turned up the right way

Hi Steve,
Which fuse are you having trouble with?

First you need to find out what is causing the excessive current draw.

It could be poor connections somewhere, or the unit could be failing, ie fuel pump, or radiator fan starting to seize.
No good installing a lovely new easily accessible fuse box, only to melt that as well.

Hello Steve . No credit to me for that one I followed Phillpots idea and put the original fuse box through a hole in footwell and put a cover over it.

Hello Glen, it`s the ignition fuse, I`ve bypassed the fusebox for now and put an inline fuse, this cured the melting problem. The fuel pump is new and the fan runs fine on the override switch. My soldering and crimping skills are pretty good after a few years working on armament electrical release systems, waits for the armourer song I can feel the avometer getting a bit of use

Cheers Mike, that looks pretty good stuff, my crimping and soldering skills are good, years of practice on aircraft armament electrical systems.

Steve - I had to do some 'repairs' to mine as it was best described as fragile. I think they all just age and become crumbly. Replacement is on my list.
