Porsche Warranty

Hey guys, I was hoping some of you guys could just confirm something for me.

I wanted to know, when renewing the warranty, are they supposed to charge the IIRC £200 whatever point check to see if the car is up to scratch?

Or is that only if you have a car that has no warranty but want it warrantied?

I was under the impression that you should only pay this if the car is not already under warranty, not to simply renew, but was hoping you guys could confirm either way.

You have to pay it to renew. However, if you need some parts and labour to get it through, then negotiate. I had to spend about £1k on brakes and I bought a set of PS2s for another £1k and so I got the inspection for "free"!

Remember, its another £200 to enter the showroom, and another £200 to leave.

That's if you leave via a Porsche approved door... if you don't, then your warranty is invalid.

Just to get this straight in my head. If I buy a 3 year old approved Porsche 911 I get 2 years warranty. After this I'd have to pay for a check just to renew the warranty even if it's been serviced at a Porsche garage within this 2 years?

Yes.

If you're lucky you'll also need tyres / brakes..........oh and 500 quid for a compression check because it has spurious range 3 over revs.

Correct. I suppose there could be a whole list of faults thrown up that you may decide not to renew your warranty after all. And the poor stealer would have wasted all that time on your inspection.

Wouldn't those faults be covered under the current warranty? Obviously excepting tyres/brakes. Toward the end of my warranty I'd want the inspection carried out and any faults fixed under that warranty. Is that how it generally works or have I missed something?

I agree. I currently have a E92 M3 and when you come to the end of your warranty period BMW contact you and ask if you'd like to extend with no further checks done. I was thinking of a early 991
Carrera S but if this is the case with the Porsche warranty I may have to re think. I don't mind paying their inflated servicing costs but this warranty issue is a joke imo.

Sorry - didn't word that very well. I meant there could be a list of non-warranty items, eg brakes discs and pads, tyres etc that might pinch the budget that was otherwise allocated to the warranty extension.
I am a reluctant fan of the extended warranty - I reckon I've just about broken even with the items I've had fixed. I say reluctant because I want Michelin PSS tyres and I want mesh grilles on my bumper to stop all the crap from corroding my rads, which then aren't covered by the warranty! Argh!

Haggle. They offered to do the inspection on mine for £80. Mine was under warranty and due for renewal.
