Posting from a poop tablet as my phone won't let me post for some reason. I'll try and break down the needs and reasons etc. Forgive me for any disjointed ramblings and curious spelling this is hard work.
I currently have 3 cars.

No willy waving one is a 8 year old diesel Clio commuter hack for the other half. A 4 year old diesel qasqhai for the family lugger, and a 20 year old rev 3 turbo Mr2.

The idea is to sell the qasqhai and Mr, leave her with the Clio and replace them with one car which will be my toy and family hack if needed.

We have a 2 year old son atm and planning on another soon. So need 4 seats decent size and the ability to pick up family stuff like flat pack furniture etc.

Mpg isn't a great concern. My commute is only 16 miles mostly dual carriageway. 20mpg would be fine. More would be good. Ability to get near 30 on a run would be nice too for those family holidays etc.

Speed. Lots of this please. As quick as my Mr2.

Looks. Very important. I'm shallow like this. I like to caress my cars whilst polishing them and admire them in windows as driving past lol. I like coupe shapes very much. Needs to look special.

Driving. Handle well. Ability to use all year round would be nice. I live in the northeast in a place that gets snow when ever Ben Nevis gets it seemingly even when no where else has it. Not a deal breaker though. Nice to drive good driving position decent spec. Meaning pas windows usual modernism refinements. Cruise con and heated seats would be nice.

Costs. I'm 34. We both have reasonable poop paid jobs but though being tenacious, stubborn, determined and a lot lucky plus some hard working in much better jobs previously we are totally debt free. No mortgage car loans etc. Which equals most months I have around a grand of free money left. Save t occasionally but usually spend on extra holidays etc. And never have to worry about stuff breaking and needing replacing.

So I need a car for around 10k give or take a couple of k. Looks great. Won't bork itself because I've looked at it wrong. Fast. Comfortable. Ability for family stuff.
Closest I've found is a Audi rs6. Which I have no idea about borkage and they don't look that great usually.
I'm out of my depth as usually poking around old pointy japanese cars. My mates say no such car exists or we'd all have one.

Has the combined knowledge of pH got what it takes to solve this mystery? Or am I confined to be either driving about by myself in the Mr2 or stuck in a diesel with the family forever?
Important note. Or not. Due to our shifts I need to be able to drop the kid/kids off every morning at our parents /nursery/school. Hence why the Mr2 doesn't get used much.

Just previewed this and its all muddled up. Ahhh. Grrr. Etc. Apologies.

Lancer sportback ralliart? Easy find for 10k for a 2009 one. 4 wheel drive, 5 doors, 240 bhp, quick, 15 mpg when pushing, 25 if not.
I like mine, got 2 kids of 7 and 3, easily takes a couple of cases in the boot when it's holiday time, has proper roof fixings for roof racks/ roof box/ bike carriers.

This.. but that specific combo is like hen's teeth. Will easily find a few 3.2 Q4 hatchbacks tho, but the wagon in that config is a rare beast.

Yes very true. At least the saloon has a decent boot and in TI spec, folding rear seats.

(Not coupe shapes, but good looking cars in their own way)

Thanks for the suggestions. Alfa and bmw 8 are too slow and borkage potential is high.
foresters are too ugly. Scoobys and evos have caught my eye previously but I thought their saloon nature may not lean towards being able to drop the back seats and load it to hilt if needed.
cant find any of those passats but s3 and golf r32 too slow and boring aswell.
Any other thoughts anyone?

If you don't insist on 4 doors - E46 M3. (Eta not perfect for snow/ikea obviously! (tho' the rear seats do fold))

Rx8 buy a good 'un and they're stellar. Wayyyyyy cheaper than the other stuff you're looking at.

I have a B5 RS4 for exactly the reasons you've mentioned. I wanted something that was interesting but could take the family comfortably. I don't have room for 18 cars and already have a W202 project and my wife's Mini, so had to combine my toy and the large(ish) family car. I also had an E39 M5 for this purpose, but that went as we ideally wanted an estate.

Impreza wagon might do it. Can drop the seats but they're not all that roomy inside especially if you have a read facing child seat. Will be trading mine in if a second child turns up.

There are big engined petrol BMWs that turn up around your price range with change for spare wheels & winter tyres, not sure on handling though!

Nissan Stagea perhaps?

You'd struggle to get an RS4 for £10k, but a B6 or B7 S4 with the nice V8 would easily be within budget.
