My Dad's 60th so thought we could take him.

Presume ferry and drive down is cheapest option. Drive from Calais says 3hr 10?

General admission ticket this year was £114 on the website. Can you find a decent enough spot, like ive done at Silverstone, without paying the big money for grandstand tickets?

Ferry + drive isn't too bad, about 3.5h with a couple of roadworks.

GA is very good at Spa, some great places to stand/sit (take a camping chair!).

Bloody marvellous place and the atmosphere is great.

I went this year, from some of the PH forum posts looks there were some horrific campsites.

We stayed at the Elephant. Easy walk from circuit and into town.
Hot showers, clean toilets, no disasters with cars getting stuck.
Was really good.

If you don't have a grandstand... IMO, there are is only really one place to watch from. Somewhere along the hill around Pouhon. We didn't have a problem finding a spot. Its a really nice circuit, lots of forest.. be prepared to walk maybe 15 - 20km in a day (thats what my fitness tracker logged walking from the campsite, to the circuit, to the town for boozing/eating, and back to the campsite).

Eating is interesting... I worked in Belgium for a bit so knew that their food was bland as fk... but the circuit food is basically processed 'meat' formed into various shapes with chips. I embraced this fully... but there is only so much pork a man can take.

It really didn't feel too far to drive from Calais. I enjoyed driving accross france adn belgium because it looks different. It was more of a ballache driving from Leeds to Folkstone! We took the tunnel, and though it's a bit more expensive it was worth it. We got loaded on an earlier train when we turned up, almost drove straight on, 30 mins later you drive off straight onto the motorway. It was excellent!

Don't think about it too much, book the Elephant, the tickets and the tunnel and just go!

(we booked it in a pub when we were pissed, best decision ever)

We went last year with ledger coach tours.

£399 includes local pick up, hotel in brussels for 3 nights and general admission ticket.

General admission is good at spa as it's so hilly.

Yep... the hills are steep. and if you have a chair you need to dig the back legs into the hillside.

Fortunately many, many people have done this over the years so the banks that at Croft or Donnington are nice and grassy, at Spa they are more like terraces at a football stadium!

Perhaps a small trowel would do

It's a long time since I was there, but of all the F1 races I've been to, Spa had the best GA - good views from various locations both close and overlooking the track although you need to be ready to hike a bit and the signposting, paths, accessibility and whatnot isn't like it is at more conventional tracks like Silverstone, Monza etc.

Went last year with a group of friends - driving down was really straightforward, you see so many Brits doing the same thing.

Would agree that Pouhon is a good place to view, but definitely worth walking round as much of the entire track as possible over the 3 days to take in some of the great viewpoints elsewhere.

We also broke up the journey on the way back by staying in Brugge for a couple of days, hotel prices seemed reasonable - great for relaxing with a few Belgian beers after a weekend watching racing.

A trowel is what we've taken in the past, works perfectly.

Really appreciate this guys, thank you. It just started as a random conversation between me and my sister. My wife said last night, "You are actually seriously considering this arent you?? " Lol
