Hi all, posting this on behalf of my mate who's just bought a golf, not the best example but got a good price but needs tidying up. On the panel there looks like a smart repair or touch up then they have put lacquer over it, I was going wet sand the lacquer down and give it a coat of lacquer again. Just hoping it will improve it I know it wont be body shop perfect. I do have a touch up paint but it looks dark so makes me think its a smart repair. Anyone seen something like this, and repair it. Worth a go a guess and he said early next year he will look to get it blended it properly but just so it doesn't stand out too much.

Just took this with my phone

Looks like touch-up paint has been put on with a brush.
You can't brush metallics or pearlescents. They must be sprayed and need a clearcoat over.
A proper SMART repair shouldn't look like that & you're not going to achieve anything just by sanding it & lacquering. Needs proper preparation & painting - either by blending out on the panel or refinishing the whole panel.

You'd be better posting this in the 'Bodywork and Detailing' section.

Might be worth removing it to see what's underneath. Sometimes there's so little actual damage you wonder why they bothered!
Thinners will usually shift it but be careful as it can affect the paint.

yeah shame really as its probably a tiny mark that would have been better left as it was rather than trying to do what they have, ive sent my mate a text and said i;ll attempt to give a go tomorrow but im not holding out much hope. might be better to get a smart repair in, even if its not perfect its better than what he has.

Stop before you make it worse. That's a max £100 repair.
