Exhaust repair or replace?

The n/s OE rear silencer on my 2001 996 has a 5cm split on the bottom seam. I have repaired it temporarily with repair gum. However, can these be repaired by welding?
Or can anyone recommend a cost effective way of replacing one silencer?

Loads of 996 silencers on eBay.

Once you've got a used, standard 996 silencer cheaply to replace your split one, it might be a perfect opportunity to swap both the standard silencers for a pair of these:
