How long for tyres to go square/develop flat spots?
Discussion
As above,
I was wondering, just how long does it take for a tyre to develop a flat spot or go square? I'm sure we've all had the unpleasant experience of driving a car that has been stood for a while, whereupon the tyre noticeably has a flat spot and even pumping it up won't remedy the ungainly vibrations caused by the misshapen tyre.
I leave my Jaguar XJ parked up, and it could be a week between uses. I mainly use my motorbike to get to and from work, because it's more fun and nearly free to run. This could mean that my car could sit parked up for a week or more between uses. I'm sure quite certain it will be just fine, even with two tyres slightly compressed due to being on the pavement. That said, I've never left my cars (particularly, not a heavy one like the Jaguar) sitting there for anything like that amount of time. I sometimes look at it and wonder if I should drive it, just to get the wheels rotated for when I return. But, is this perhaps just some devil on my shoulder urging me to take it out?
I know it's difficult to pick a figure out of thin air, but how long do tyres take to develop irreparable flat spots, or 'go square'?
