How not to diagnose a worn clutch pedal pin...

Last Saturday the clutch started slipping under load, pedal felt awful too.
The clutch had only done 6k but most of that was in another of my cars years ago so put it down to age.
Checked fluids, all good and no leaks so wasted no time ordering a new clutch from Racing Green and fitting it over a few evenings.
Went out yesterday, clutch felt better but pedal still iffy ... put it down to not being used to the car (off the road for 6 years ... lazy rebuild!).
Then it slipped again ... and blue was the air in the cabin (not from the clutch by the way).
I started to pay more attention to the iffy clutch pedal and discovered it would not return without hooking your foot under it, then it did so with a crack. Every time.
it took an hour to get the VERY worn pin out between the pedal and the clutch actuator rod. I tested it with the 8mm shank of a bolt and rejoiced in the amazing return of a perfect feeling clutch pedal.
I didn't rejoice in the wasted garage hours and cost of a clutch I didn't need.
Maybe next time I'll investigate just a little longer!!!
