Drove down and back up M20 today. On about four occasions, I'm in middle lane at 70mph overtaking trucks etc. Look in mirror - someone really right up my arse. Outside lane is empty. I pull back into left hand lane after completing my overtake and they go past. I know my speed didn't vary because was on cruise control. What's going on?

And they stay in the middle lane after they're past too don't they?

Really? Normally they draw up next to you and sit there until you get slowed by the next truck.

Full fat MLM

And lo thy lane shall be in the middle
The leftmost most lane is only to be used for entry and exit
The rightmost lane does not exist

Contra-flows must really fk with their heads.

PH fail. Thenceforth thou shalt speak only of lanes 1, 2, 3.

What if there are four lanes?

OP - I have also noticed this. They will sit right on your chuff but won't overtake, bizarre.

I would never slow down in that situation to match the speed of the vehicle in lane 1. Never.

Alternatively idea, if you really want to pi$$ on their bonfire. Indicate right, pull into empty third lane, and see if they'll undertake you...???

I saw that with a MINI with 4 old people in it on the M62, holding up a petrol tanker. Tanker just steamed through and the MINI resumed lane 2 again.

There are some people who genuinely think L1 is for trucks and L2 is for cars.

I only use middle and inside lanes, the car is limited to 70 so I keep my foot in it most of the time

These are the people who wont go in the 'fast lane' because it's full of idiots. Instead they'll tailgate the st out of you, then when you move, they'll cruise up to the next person and tailgate the st out of them too.

They dont use the inside lane as that's for lorries

I drive to Blackpool/Lytham frequently on the M55 and at both ends you are fed onto the motorway in lanes 2 or 3 (lane one appears slightly later as a continuing entry slip).... this sets up the MLM's perfectly as they don't even have to worry about being in lane 1 for a moment. They may as well pave over lane one and put a roller coaster on it; maybe call it the "Lane 1 Experience".

I love that junction at the M55 at Broughton. Always wonder how long people will stay in lane 1 which becomes the middle lane.

I don't understand why people approaching a car in lane 2 will brake to match its speed. Why not just go round the car and maintain the speed?

I'm pretty sure it's cars with radar guided cruise control that do this. That way they don't have to press any pedals?
