Any of you guys fitted a tracker !!

Hi All, I don't venture in here at all so please don't laugh. I've just ordered my 11 yr old son quite an expensive stunt BMX for his birthday and was wondering if I could fit a small tracker to it that I can track it through my mobile (in case some bigger kids decide to nick it). Is there anything available on the market that anybody knows of. I know hiding it is bit of an issue but i do have an idea !!!!! All thoughts welcome. Regards, Col !!!!

Very sensible question. I've not come up with an adequate solution. I was looking at the problem because I'm usually cycling alone and wanted people to find me if I was concussed/worse in a ditch. The problems are:

1) Providing adequate battery life
2) GPS (which is what you're looking at) requires a SIM card which you're going to need to keep topping up, assuming you don't want to go with an ongoing contract.

If you can work around those issues, the 'Bay is your friend.

From roughly knowing how interested the police are in stolen bikes, I can't imagine they would be chomping at the bit to track down a stolen bike fitted with a tracker. Happy to be proven wrong though.

I would say your best bet is to make sure it is adequatley insured, and if the worst happens, get it replaced.
