a skip lorry drove into the side of me whilst I was sitting in traffic - he claimed he didn't see me - also known as didn't check his mirrors

just wondered whether I should involve our broker and they want to involve a claims management company called kinder tons

it is a company car 991 - 2 years old. all panels busted on drivers side and also rear wheel mangled and poss suspension damage and maybe chassis ?

no hurry to get car fixed

just want it done properly

I don't fancy having my company pay up front and then try to claim back. want to get it all assessed first

any advice ?

I had first hand experience of a claims management company when my Boxster was written off last year.

To be honest, in my experience, there was just as much stress with the claims management company & their underhand tactics at gaining an income from my misfortune as there was from the accident itself.

It was disgusting at how they looked for every opportunity to obtain an income from the accident. I won't go into detail here, but I was completely in the dark about what they do as I never had an insurance claim in 20 years of driving. My insurance company advised me that they would pass the case off to their 'non fault division' as it was clearly a non fault accident. However, their 'non fault division' was nothing more than a claims management company.

Cue:

- no one taking responsibility for claim
- courtesy car turning up (another Boxster) - not necessary but they wanted me to sign to say that I would got the bill if third party contested the cost. I sent it back.
- harassment over personal injury claim
- not willing to get involved in the negotiation of payout for write off value
- etc, etc....

It was a real eye opener for me & to be honest they are borderline criminal in their activities. No wonder insurance is so high.

Also, I had legal cover through my broker, however as the insurance company passed it to their 'non fault division' aka claims management company, my actual legal cover that I had paid for refused to take the claim on. I was misinformed & as a result suffered financially because of it.

To be honest I should have submitted a complaint to the insurance ombudsman.

I would echo Boxstercol's comments word for word (with the deletion of personal injury because I was taking a football training session when a school minibus reversed into my door).

It's a disgrace that reputable insurance companies use them. They make their money from hiring you a car of similar value and all that that entails (especially when you give it back).

If you have the use of another car at home, refuse the hire car. The claims management company will openly admit there's nothing in it for them and pass it back to your insurer. My insurance company wanted to use their "approved insurer", 50 miles from me to repair my BMW. I asked why my BMW stealer (10 miles away) wasn't approved to repair it... They asked me to get a quote. Approved repairer: £3,000. BMW: £1,800. Insurance company didn't have a leg to stand on. And don't forget I saved them the hire cost of another BMW while all this nonsense was going on. My BMW stealer loaned (not hired!) me a Corsa while it was being fixed - properly!

Good luck.

The next problem you'll have is that this "no fault claim" will inflate your premium for the next 3 years. This is because, statistically, having had a no fault claim, you are now more likely to have an at fault accident! You couldn't write it. Apparently in most "no fault claims" the insurance company believes you were at fault. The examples they gave me were colliding with a car that pulls out in front of you when you have right-of-way. Apparently you should be able to stop in time! And the other is when you are looking for a space in a car park and collide with a car reversing out of a space!

Run like the wind from kinder tons. We trialled them as our nominated accident management co. Totally inept, and ended trial early.

Righty ho ! I reckon I will cancel the claims management process in the morning. thank you for your comments. I don't 'need' another 911 as a hire car, but I also don't need our fleet policy to be 'loaded' next year for a anything either ! thank you for your helpful comments.- Simon
