Hi,
I'd heard on the grapevine today regarding a local dealership offering a new car at silly prices I thought I'd go and have a look and find out some more information.
In summary we were priced up a brand new 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa which came to just over £13,000. Upon looking at other options, as long as we chose either non-metalic blue or red in the 1.0 3 cylinder version we could again pick up a brand new one for £7,000.
I just wondered if anyone had stumbled across any little unexpected bargains?.

On another note we were offered the same car on 0% finance PCP over three years. Does anyone have any experience with buying a car on PCP?

I don't think £13k for a 1.2 Corsa is a very good deal.

£7k is. But £13k isn't.

That's what I was eluding to really. £7k for a car which eventually would only be £30 a year to tax, £205 fully comp for the wife. Bargain.

You probably mean alluding, not eluding.

Out of curiosity, what is the GFV they put on one of these £7k Corsa's?

Not a lot, £2500 which is why I have walked away (for now). Of course there was all the sales talk of "I'll give you more than that" etc etc.

Isn't the 1.0 Corsa about the slowest new car currently on sale in the UK? I'm fully aware that no one buys a small engined Corsa for its performance, but IIRC, it takes something stupid like 18 seconds to get to 62. That's nearly twice as long as my, not very fast at all, car.

Kia picanto.

It's not fast but it's very cheap to run. 50+mpg, no tax. 7 year warranty with 3 years servicing. Very happy with ours as a second car.

The 1.2 Picanto seems a nice enough car and with the ecodynamics thing still comes in at 99g/km so is zero tax. Obviously it's not fast, but it never really feels underpowered for its intended purpose.

They aren't particularly cheap though.

There were some incredible lease deals on the c1 a few years ago. Around 100/month I believe. And at that point they were still congestion charge exempt so for anyone driving into London regularly the c-charge savings would quite easily pay for the lease.

Some of the SEAT Mii have no deposit, 0% Finance over 3 years.

We've just had a look at picantos. Tbh the very very basic, IE no aircon etc came out at £155 per month, the slightly more featured version VR7 came in at £182 per month.
The 2 dr Corsa was £165.
We've also been to Seat today, the Mii 2dr was £165, the Ibiza 4dr was £179.
All of these are based on 3yr lease with £250 deposit.
Something else that caught my eye was the Skoda Octavia Black edition @£159 per month but with a 30% deposit (very different car I know).

It makes buying a nearly new car very unattractive, what with APR on top.

And the power aspect has put us off of the Corsa, with reviews saying it is very poor on the motorway. I think our next step is to have a look at the Ecoboost Fiesta.

The Ecoboost Fiesta is a nice car, as this segment goes.

Agreed, the 125bhp version is an excellent package.

My wife's just ordered a Seat Mii by Mango to replace her hateful citroen c3. Looked at the VW up but for less money you get far more with the seat, I thought the Mango hook up would be cheesed but it's actually really nice, you get the highest out out engine sat nav, leather/alcantara seats and a few other little styling touches like nice grey alloys. No deposit and £150 per month, I think it's a cracking little car.

I don't advise it, not without supervision. And certainly not in the home counties.

I seen some silly cheap lease deals on the Mii a week or so ago, a £1k deposit and £50+ vat per month for 23 months.

Sorry, I should have added the Mii we felt was a little too small in the back. We got my 8 year old lad to sit in the back behind the wife with her seat adjusted and he barely had any room.
