Lovely painting. I have a couple of his son's paintings (Lawrence Coulson) which are very similar in atmosphere just without the aircraft.
Thanks for opening this thread. As I said in the other thread, aviation painting is a sub-genre that deserves a bit of exposure.
I am a fan of Michael Turner. I first discovered him in the early 80s because of his motorsport art but soon found out that he was a prolific aviation artist as well - with often a slightly "off the mainstream" choice for his subjects.

My favourite Aviation/Car artist is Michael Turner, but I've always loved the artwork on model kit boxes. The digital artwork of Adam Tooby (current artist for Airfix) is incredibly impressive. His Dambusters image is almost three dimensional:

Looking around a few at Duxford on the weekend. They are from a a firm called Aces High so not sure what the rules are, not related to them and not sure if copying the images are a done thing seeing they are selling them.
One that I now want is called "Pathway to the Rhur"
I suppose its "cool" considering the story and the people involved. No whooshing of jets, big explosions or anything, just some very brave young men about to get in harms way.

Another (much under rated) aviation artist was Eric Day who specialised in water colours and had several paintings commissioned by RAF Sqns.
I like the clean lines and simplicity in his work:
Another favourite of mine is this rendition of a Sunderland out over the N Atlantic by Norman Hoad. The original hung in the Officer's Mess of No1 Maritime Headquarters Unit RAuxAF at Valency House in Northwood. I particularly like how he has captured the sea/sky interface perfectly

Don't like the Catalina much though, post war conversion being posed as wartime.
Still a great picture.
His engines are right unlike the latest Airfix chap's.
