TVR GT team switches to Mosler

Eclipse Motorsport puts its T400R up for sale

Eclipse Motorsport's John Griffiths and Chris Pollard announced on Friday that they're selling their TVR T400R racecar in favour of a Mosler (right). The team's new Mosler MT900R will contest the British GT Championship in 2005 and other European races, while the team’s TVR T400R will be offered for sale. A second Mosler remains an option.

An announcement about drivers in 2005 will follow shortly.

John Griffiths said “We’re very excited about the move to Mosler. It was something that, to be honest, we had seriously considered for the 2002 season and Chris and I were due to see the car race in the September GrandAm race at Daytona prior to placing an order. However, the events of September 11th caused the cancellation of both the race and our visit and by the time that we returned to Daytona for the Rolex 24 we had ordered the TVR.

“It was, therefore, ironic to find ourselves battling out the 2003 season against the Short and Balfe Moslers, though we can’t pretend to have been surprised at how good they were.

“Shorty has done a top job in getting the production sorted up at Breckland and it was extremely heartening to be there the other week as a container lorry was opened up to reveal 30 or so tubs and bodies to join the rows of crated engines already in the warehouse. Having suffered the frustrations of an unfulfilled road car programme in the past this was rather good to see."

Hope it goes well for you next year mate. Is the paint scheme still going to be blue/orange or are you going to do something different with the Mosler? Whatever you do it'll still be a beautiful car.

Thanks! We're all really fired up by this. Nothing against people like Chris Runciman, Reidy and Andy Minns at TVR, who have always been a great help, but the Mosler is such a good car and the company's commitment to manufacturing the cars is clear to see.

TVR has now lost two teams to the same small U.S. manufacturer...

Colour scheme? Not sure yet, but we've been saying for weeks that it'd look damn good in blue and orange.

Possibly a slightly lighter shade of blue, with an orange stripe? Not that I'm suggesting you run Gulf colours or anything like that.....

Yes I know you've got sponsors to think about and all that. You have to admit it would look damn good though

If it was up to me I'd have it painted entirely in tangerine orange, with large 'Jagermeister' stickers on it. Sadly it's not up to me...

A fine choice Sir! Any news on whether th car will be appearing in an FIA GT round or two, since Monsuier Ratel seems to want to relax the homologation rules in GT2?

At the moment we're just saying we'll do a couple of international races next year. We'll be at the FIA race at Magny Cours as part of the British GT class, of course, and I imagine our competitiveness there will partly dictate any other appearances.

At the moment the car doesn't quite conform to ACO regs due to the windscreen width (marginally too small), though the Morgan got a dispensation to race so you never know. The car is already proven in longer races (Daytona/Bathurst), so it'd be nice to do an LMES race. I love the longer races anyway - you can really use a proper strategy.

We've certainly spent too long just racing in Britain, so some international stuff is definitely on the cards. I think the new car shows that we're serious about that.

Great news mate. I never realised the ACO were that picky. I mean I can understand them getting upset about the Maserati MC12 because that's and old style GT1 car in everything but name. But the Mosler has clearly proved it's not going to wipe the floor with everything in the class, so why not let it race? I think there needs to be leeway in the rules in sportscar racing for cars that are in the spirit of the class, but don't meet the letter of the law. Ratel wants to let cars like the Gillet Vertigo, TVR T400, stuff like that, into the GT2 class in FIA GT next year. Top move in my view. I've always wanted to see a Vertigo
