Hi,

I have just picked up a new (2nd hand) car and when I got it home I noticed a chunk has been taken out of the side wall of the tire.

The car is less than a year old and purchased from a franchised dealer - should this have been rectified prior to letting the car be sold, or can tires handle a certain amount of damage to the side wall?

I've seen mixed comments on the internet, mostly being replace, was going to take it into an MOT / tyre place for second opinion.

Have informed the garage today but waiting a call back.

As long as there's no chord showing or the tyre hasn't got a lump or bulge it'll be good enough for a MOT and probably good enough for the dealer to retail, if it doesn't breach any approved used car standards.

a lot of tyres have a large rim protectors, it's designed so you can knock chunks out of it
