A mate and I were having some Facebook banter about cars, he challenged me with his tuned White MK2 Focus ST Estate (Ecto 2). He claimed 300 plus bhp and 430 plus lb/ft of torque, the 300 bhp seems pretty believable for a 250 BHP car with the usual Remap, exhaust, and filter but 443 lb/ft of torque ?

I thought he had made a typo and it was 330 lb/ft, but he posted a dyno chart 443.7 LB/FT at 2109 RPM and 328.8 bhp.

Anyone else heard of gains like that, that is an immense amount of torque for a 2 litre turbo isnt it ?

2.5litre 5 pot, known to be torquey so it wouldn't surprise me.

Should have been clearer This is the MK2 ST, with the Ecoboost 250 bhp 4 cyl.

Mountune claim 275bhp / 400NM (295LB/FT} with their MP275 (stage 1) upgrade - so whilst I'd expect to see more at "stage 2" that torque figure does seem impressive.

It's because it's white init. Easily the most torquey colour!

I did wonder if it was an Nm figure at first

You can't get a MK2 estate, you can get a Mk3 estate however, that came with a 2.0 4cyl 250bhp engine. the MK2's use 5 cyl 2.5l modified Volvo engines with 225bhp as standard. Both engines can see 300bhp with a downpipe, CAIS, bigger intercooler and a remap.

The mk2 does have a lot of torque, but i won't pretend to understand how torque works

edit - just seen the dyno, it's a Mk3 smile

Yeah, sorry, getting my Foci mixed up, MK1 is the 5 cyl original, MK2 is a facelift of that car and the MK3 is the 4 cyl Ecoboost.

Yeah, 430 lb/ft by 2000 rpm in a small FWD car, I would imagine its pretty flexible.

He said that the Mountune maps are designed with the warranty in mind but I cant really get my head round that there is another 100 odd lb/ft left untapped, he mentioned the Mountune MR300 map which doesnt retain the warranty but I dont think that is 400 plus lb/ft, 300 odd.

Still he provided a dyno plot, but to me that sounds more like NM than LB/FT, isnt there a correlation formula for torque vs bhp ?

I thought torque and bhp always crossed over at 5252?

(I could be totally wrong though!)

I haven't seen a lot of them so feel free to correct me PH but I've never seen a BHP line go up so quickly and then drop to so little.

Maybe it's these new fandangled engines.

Theyll be artificially dropping torque off to prevent the something going pop I should imagine - I have a similar shaped curve on my megane (further up the range mind) to prevent it going too far over 300bhp and bending rods etc.

Its not its an evolution of the engine i have in mine . It does have much fatter rods though , i am dubious of those figures id want to know about AFRs ,boost & wgdc .

Wouldn't it have something to do with the scales for power and torque being different? If they were both zeroed I imagine they would cross at 5252.
