Any tips for finding a rare car?

I want a rare car. I've been searching for a long time but cannot find one.

What is it you ask? Historic classic? Rare alfa? Old Saab? No, I'm actually after a VXR Vectra

Anyway, to the point, I'm looking for a Silver VXR Vectra Estate. I'd consider red, but not black and not Ardern blue. However, the only ones I can find are fking blue. I want a totally standard one, but push come to shove, if it's been modded, i'd spend money taking it back to original spec.

I don't like the blue (which seems easy to find), as it's too shouty and ostentatious as a colour.

According to the interwebs, there's only 800 left on the road, and I can guarantee the majority of these will be the hatchbacks. I've never even seen one where I can go and be cheeky and ask to buy it or stick a note on it.

Anyone else been in a similar predicament? Did you give up? Stick with it? Look for something else?

My first stop would be to join some Vauxhall or VXR forums and ask on there.
I've already found one that was for sale 6 months ago, so they do exist

I was in a similar predicament... when I was looking for my Silver Vectra VXR.

However mine is a Hatchback. I couldn't find a Silver one with my desired spec for a while.

There have recently been a couple of Silver estates up for sale...

Regarding finding an Estate you like - production numbers;

Vectra VXR Estate (255PS); Total Built = 53
Flame Red - 5
Silver Lightning - 0
Star Silver - 12
Arden Blue - 25
Black Sapphire - 11

Vectra VXR Estate (280PS); Total Built = 85
Flame Red - 5
Silver Lightning - 2
Star Silver - 11
Arden Blue - 44
Black Sapphire - 23

Do you specifically need the Estate for a reason? The Hatch is pretty sizeable as it is for everyday use, and as you guessed, is more readily available for sale.

If you're willing to pay to get a modified one put to standard, why not get a standard blue (or black, or red) one resprayed silver?

DougieMc on here is the boss man of the VXR team (or certainly one of the larger cheeses there at least) so he may know where some are?
