Castle Combe on Saturday, it was a little greasy in the morning, and the track is fairly bumpy, but even so I was surprised how intrusive the ABS is.

Any simple way of turning it off or getting it more aggressively set? Or perhaps even driving style tips?

Cheers!

Andrew,

I think your answer is in your question mate.

Mine certainly doesn't cut in until things are getting well out of shape, and any later, then i think it would start to go pair shapped !!!

I don't think any other cars ABS would be any less intrusive in those conditions, bear in mind the shortness of the suspension travel, which will easily hop on bumpy surfaces, and don't forget just how fast these things can take corners !!

Its VERY slippy out there - even when it looks dry the roads are greasy and I'd imagine the track is the same, so your ABS is probably cutting in for good reason. Should be better in the dry/warm weather.

the car comes out from the factory very stiffly set up, especially at the front end, which is not good on bumpy roads. As it skips over the bumps, the tyres lose traction and the ABS kicks in. I had it set up on much softer settings which helped enormously. Also a good tyre choice will help. More grip, less ABS intrusion. Pirreli Rosso's best I've tried so far. If you want to go the whole hog, six piston calipers and 360mm solid grooved discs did the trick for me!! oh and there are factory cooling ducts you can fit if you do a lot of track days or mountain road driving!

Hmmm ... I've driven my SR3 at Combe in similar conditions, even stiffer suspension setup and faster cornering but no ABS obviously and not a hint of lock up.

It was fairly intrusive even in the afternoon when dry. Things nowhere near out of shape, eg. braking for the chicane after Quarry (forget the name) and I get quite noticeable ABS in the dry at 100m mark.

I thought I'd heard the cup cars run different settings that's all?

I'd start with getting the suspension set up. Parr Garage are pretty good or Bob Watson up near Bicester. Both have a lot of racing experience. I had the same problem with my GT3. Ended up getting six piston calipers and discs in the end

I was getting similar in my GT3 on the same day (tyres are the standard ones, with 2.5k road miles.). It also kicks in a lot more frequently than I would expect on the road.

Can you take the ABS relay out, or does this freak out the ECU when the car does a mini diagnostic/system check upon start up? You could also have a switch built that jumps the relay, and could be activated from the cabin. I've seen a few cars that have had this done for use on the track.

With stiff suspension (i.e. high spring rate), then with a heavy-ish car (coampared to the SR3), is there a chance that when going over small bumps, the wheel is not fully controlled, so leaves the ground, or lessens its' contact with ground such that the ABS detects imbalance between the other wheels? This comes down to springing and damping which has already been mentioned though. Could just be that the tyres simply didn't have any grip in those conditions?

Was watching carerra cup racing last night on TV and even with slicks and rock hard suspension, they were able to lock up in places - with ABS. I know that the race spec ABS has a recalibrated ECU, but I suppose their suspension is a dedicated setup and goes hand in hand with the ABS ECU?
