... and Santa's bringing me a GT3

I've been struggling with the decision for months - looked at GT3, 360, M3, Tuscan etc. Wife thought the Tuscan was downright ugly (and I didn't fancy changing engines every 6 months ), M3 wasn't really special enough, and the 360, although a fabulous car just isn't as practical either as a car to use or as an ownershp prospect. And a 3 year old one's more expensive than a new GT3

Test drove an RS at Lovett's in Swindon a couple of weeks ago, but after driving a 'standard' GT3 I reckoned the major differences were cosmetic and found it difficult to justify the price difference.

Ended up doing a deal on a new GT3 in Lovett's in Cardiff. Hopefully collecting Friday. I'm not really excited at all

Congrats Bob,

You'll love it !!!

Looks great.

Do i detect PCCB's on yours ???

I have standard ones on my GT3 which are awesome, and i have PCCB on my Turbo cab which are even better, but would worry about using them on track after all this speculation about longivity etc.

Hope to see you on track in the new year.

Yes, PCCBs, if I'd spec'd the car myself I'd have left them off, but it's a car someone ordered then didn't want.

It's one of the things that put me off buying a used one.

I don't plan on tracking it - note that that's subtly different from 'I won't be tracking it' Once the garage has room I'll be building another car for trackdays.

Well, that was a great way to spend Christmas Eve Picked up the car this morning and have spent most of the day getting to know it. It's 3 years since I sold my last one, a 993 Targa, and although this one obviously has lots of similarities there are lots of differences.

What's the concensus on running in? The manual just says to avoid too many cold starts and to avoid revving the engine too much when cold. Although you can go plenty fast enough without revving it much it's just starting to sound interesting when you change gear at 4-5k

It's been pissing down most of the day here so no pics yet really. I'd normally be pleased to have a white Christmas ...

What a beauty and a fantastic christmas present!! Love the colour (but then it does seem to be same colour as my 993, so I would of course). Take it easy on those icy roads and think hard before lifting off mid-bend!

Good decision by the way, going for those special "unphotographable" number plates - must get some myself.

I'm so jealous, so this is your daily driver?
I'm toying with going for a GT3 or 996 TT to replace my 996 C2. How you finding it on the road, is it a bit to low or a bit on the stiff side for UK roads?

Give 'us' a full report, please

No, not day to day, although it'll be a bit more practical on the business trips than the Ult was. Got a nice sensible Mondeo diesel estate for plodding round in.

That was one of my conerns too, but I have to say it's very civilised. It's all relative of course, but it really is pleasant to drive around, it's very firm but the ride quality is excellent, much smoother for example than my Evo VII. Perhaps that doesn't say a lot though ...

It's helped by the seats - it's got the leather bucket seats, so the only adjustment is fore and aft, but they're soooo comfortable. Roll on June and Le Mans

I tried to get it into our underground car park at work yesterday while it was quiet but it's a very steep ramp and the front lip spoiler was grounding at the bottom of the ramp so I had to abandon and reverse out. It's been fine over the speed bumps I've encountered so far.

I thought about a 996TT but did want something a bit more of a driver's car - without wishing to offend any TT drivers! My Evo VII is a fantastic car A to B, and in the wet I'm confident I could go much quicker than in the GT3, but that isn't really the point. I wanted rear wheel drive.

The handling feels great, very confidence inspiring, although I've only had it on cold wet roads so far. And it sounds fantastic

So you've gone for the Clubsport as opposed to the Comfort spec, I see from the cage and the seats.

A rare and fine car, the extra bodywork/spoilers are just right on the later GT3's imo. Pick of the bunch looks wise; I've always preferred the narrow body cars to the wider bodied Turbo. So much sleeker

Well, no, I think it's Comfort spec (i.e. automatic aircon, leather seats rather than alcontara) but with the rear cage spec'd separately. It doesn't have the fire extinguisher either.

I didn't spec the car, someone ordered it ages ago and didn't take the car. It's been in the dealership for a few months till the nice men there came over all flexible on the price

Having said that the only option I probably wouldn't have chosen is the PCCBs.

bob - it's possibly a clubsport as they look like the recaro buckets just covered in leather - as opposed to the comfort "sports" seats. Air con was an option on all clubsports, and the rollcage can be specified as half (in your case) or full. It looks like you don't have the center console - is there a red cutoff switch in front of the gearstick? If so it's a clubsport. Fire extinguisher didn't have to be fitted.

Clubsport cars had the 'GT3 seats' in fabric, however the non-clubsport cars had leather covered GT3 seats (as this car has).

In addition, the silver cage is probably a Tequipment Porsche accesory cage, as the standard clubsport cages were black.

The front cage and also the fire extinguisher was supplied in boxes on Clubsport cars, for the owner to decide whether to fit.

Centre console is deletable or specable on both types of GT3.

This makes me think its a normal non-clubsport car.

You could also spec leather on the clubsport seats as an optional extra, but you are probably correct about the rest - I'd say the cut-off switch would be the most obvious tell-tale.

No, it isn't a clubsport - no kill switch either. The seats are the buckets in leather, an adjustment other than fore/aft but very supportive and superbly comfortable.
