What's that noise?

Other than money draining from my pocket...

My '98 Elise has just started making a clonking noise over bumps at low speed, which I think originates from the left front. Before I open all my Christmas presents and bring them back to pay for my dealers villa in Spain, has anyone any idea what this might be?

Yeah, that's what I thought/feared! I was hoping someone would tell me that it was the sub-under sprocket-flange widget thingy at £2.99 plus VAT. Oh well, cancel Xmas...
