Holy smoke, its a miracle!

I am in the throws of cleaning my engine compartment, partly because I am sad but mainly because the guy i bought it from kept the car outside and it looks older than its 6 years.

In addition to the standard work on the chassis and wishbones I sanded down the exhaust horns and treated them with POR15. POR 15 is supposed to be rated to 700DegreesF so i painted about half of the leading manifold. After about 2 mins of engine idle there was lots of smoke and the POR15 miraculously changed from the purchased silver to a wonderful gold just before smoking horribly and then peeling off, looking alot like gold leaf.

The rusty exhaust manifolds really look crap and i want to tidy them up, without the unnecessary expense of replacing the system. POR15 doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?

The exhaust gets up to around 1000 deg Centigrade, which is way past the limits of POR15. You need exhaust manifold paint to survive those temperatures.

TVR supply a wonderful product for improving the appearance of the whole engine and its ancillaries, particulary the exhaust manifolds. Many hours of thought went into its design and production. I keep a very careful mental note not to become too sad about the whole cleaning thing and enjoy getting it out and thrashing it about in the open air.

And yes that was all deliberate but you know what i mean.
