I was going from Edinburgh to Linz (Austria) (similar-ish distance).

Back a couple of years. Used the Newcastle - Amsterdam ferry which I found very convenient as in both directions I boarded the ferry at night and leave in the morning. (If the time schedule is still the same, that is.)

Drive from Amsterdam with a Land Rover was just under 10 hours. I suspect that to Prague you will be a bit faster, and if you drive something faster than a Defender, you might do it in ~ 8 hours? When planing the trip try to avoid the rush hour traffic on the German Autobahn. And obey the speed limits while still in the Netherlands.
