Private Pilots licence

As a random act of randomness and too many viewings of "ice pilots" on the discovery channel my dad and I have decided to go to our local airfield for an hour each of hands on flight time in a Cessna 152, with the idea being that if either of us like it and show some proficiency we'll do our PPL.
IN the meant time does anyone have any basic book recommendations that i can get from amazon?
I know google is my friend but its always fun to ask and get other peoples input.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure if I would do too much reading in advance. Your instructor should explain what you need to know in the pre flight briefing. Ie basic principles of flight controls, primary and possibly secondary responses, Pitch and power attitudes for the aircraft you are learning on etc. things like navigation, air law etc will all come at a later stage and in more depth.
I'm sure the instructor will brief as much as is required, especially if you say let them know you are looking to have it as a start to gaining a licence, instead of just a quick pleasure flight wanting to look at the view.
After that , and you still want to continue the they will let you know the reading material required and the other bits that you'll need. If you buy it all at once such as this or purchase all the bits separately as you go along is up to you. You'll also need a current VFR chart too.
But the most important thing is to enjoy it, it's meant to be fun! I still remember my first few flying lessons in a c152 well, even though they were 10 years ago and over 5000 hours on something a lot larger. Would love to go back and do it all over again and regain my SEP rating.
