I felt I should start this as a tribute to monstourous engines that have been produced in the last 15 years. The physical disappointment of the new "Mercedes-AMG C63" has brought me to consider some of the absolute beasts available...
I've never owned one, but is definetly on the list (Probably next, fancy a W211 E55). Owner experiences, performance numbers, links to AMGs for sale, ruined AMG horrors, tuned AMGs and pictures welcome!
I like this one for sale:

Proper.
Any contributions??? Owners, prospective owners, dreamers?

I'm struggling to find performance and power statistics for the E55, their simply all over the place. I have noted 0-100 in 9 sec for a 211 E55 - surely that must be wrong with just supposedly 473bhp? Anybody got or had one? That seems exceedingly fast and no issues keeping up with the most modern machinery...
I've driven a couple of the W210 E55s. Beast of a car even though the numbers are nothing special now. I looked at buying a rust free one about 6 years ago although the insurance was too prohibitive at the time for me.
My old boss still has his, the bodywork rapidly dissolving but the appetite for fuel and tyres remain.

I was looking at those when I bought my current car. There just wasn't any around that were half decent the budget I was looking for. The rust issue ruined it for me.My old boss still has his, the bodywork rapidly dissolving but the appetite for fuel and tyres remain.
I have a w211 E55k AMG as my family car - and it is still the best car I have ever driven despite is now being worth very little indeed...the running costs are OK considering what it is and I still think it to be shockingly quick - my dad calls it "embarrassingly fast" and he drives a 911!
I really can't think of any other car that is so quiet, comfortable and easy to drive normally then floor the accelerator and the supercharger works its magic and you are losing you license before you know it!

Just recently I was in Glasgow buying my Jaguar XJ, the lad I bought it off had just picked up a W210 E55. He showed me to the petrol station at from where I started my trip home, and I thought at the time that it was pleasant to see two big V8 saloons on the road together. Fantastic cars. Sadly far rarer these days, after the ravages of women loving SUV's and company drivers loving small, s
t engines.
I still find the W210 a handsome shape in the right trim.

Thank you. Just the type of info required. I like the idea of 500bhp in a family saloon or estate. For me a good late 55 is really the next step.I really can't think of any other car that is so quiet, comfortable and easy to drive normally then floor the accelerator and the supercharger works its magic and you are losing you license before you know it!

Always good to read your contributions. The 210 is extremely handsome in saloon form - but when I bought my current V8, they were so thin on the ground it was a joke. Now there seems to be loads for sale. There's one on AT with 300k on it!

So the mechanics can take the miles but not bodywork? Bloody shame. I have a feeling you'd have to garage one if you bought and that's just not right for a modern classic IMO.
I nearly bought a C36 AMG a couple of years ago. There was one for sale near me for a ridiculously small amount (I think it was about £2750, but I could be completely wrong). Never did end up following up on my intention of going to see it, it could have been a complete nail but it looked pretty straight. I remember reading a rather amusing interview with some MB engineer or whoever, on the new C36 AMG. Typically, the journalist was following the usual angle of comparing the Mercedes to the inferior BMW product, and when asked if they considered the C36 to be up to the task of taking on the M3, the MB staffer replied "actually, we benchmarked it against the Porsche 911".

I'm a resident C36 beard having owned mine for 8 years, and it's still a rowdy joyous machine.
Mine was on PH compared to the A45 AMG if anyone is clever enough to find the link from about a year ago.
. Its been a blast, whether as family transport or blasting around the 'ring. Its simplicity, lack of traction control, deep chested character , sheer quality and compact dimensions make it my perfect driving companion.

I had my first on-road experience of an AMG earlier this very week! It was a C63 AMG Edition 507 estate and it was fantastically mental. Sounded brilliant and was really quite fast. I didn't expect the V8 to be so happy to rev.
In fairness the S6 will rev out to 7000rpm and sounds fantastic, but the final iteration of the M156 is a true great.
I will probably never forget driving a C63 AMG either. Whilst the C-class on steroids look struck me as a little gauche after the restrained and elegant looking models C-AMG models of old, the drive was first class. I loved the seat and the steering wheel, both fantastic touches. It was quite quick too.
All it did was give me the want for a V8 SL!
