XK8 for 6k, Chim for 8K or 15K for a Tuscan.

All big engines doing approx the same mpg, all roughly the same for insurance.
Speed and comfort and eye popping candy.....mmmmm.
So what do you go for.

Just bumming around, maybe a trip around Eu to make the frogs drool a bit, pop a few Italian eyes.
Annual mileage, maybe 3/4k......

(Had a chim for a while, was tasty).

Thats my thoughts right now.
What are yours?

I have had an XK8 and a Chimaera, what different beasts they were. I used both as my everyday car, I would pick the Chimaera every time.

I haven't had a Tuscan though and they probably look the best out of the three, but the Chimaera would sound nicest I think.

The X100 XK8 is the sexiest GT of all time, I'd go for that every time, especially if you are looking for a special car you can use every day.

I'd go for an XKR rather than an 8. It's a heavy old beast but I loved mine.

Tuscan, if it's had an engine rebuild.

I like the Chimaera (have had three), but they're pretty agricultural and need a lot of fettling... stepper motors etc etc). Jag only an auto (?), which would cut them out for me.

There are some around for that but why is your budget 6k for the Jag, 8K and 15k for the Trevs?

All very different cars. I used to have a Griff 500, loved it. Now have a 4.2 XKR convertible and love that too.

Very different beasts but both fantastic. I guess it comes down to what you want out of the car.

As lovely as my Griff was if I'd used it daily I'd have tired of it for sure and it would've been much less of an occasion.

I don't think they are really comparable. The Tuscan is something people will stop you in petrol stations over, take photos of when you drive around cities. It is, in my mind anyway, a beautiful car that people are drawn to.

Both the others are very nice cars, but they aren't an occasion car. Just depends what you want. And budget £1k a year for running the Tuscan.

I far prefer the look of the Chimaera to the Tuscan, so it is a no brainer for me. Plus to potter across Europe, the Touring use of the Chimaera would do me fine (however, I've owned them for 15 years or so now so perhaps can be considered biased).

Not sure whether it's a similar arrangement on the Tuscan, but I found the Chimaera a pain for touring, because having the top down meant that the boot was largely filled with the roof panel. Not enough space on a long trip, and even if only travelling light, it meant removing and repacking everything.

Interesting Johhny.
I would have thought the boot way big enough for the Chim and the behind the seats for an away bag.....hence my thoughts there.....BUT is the Chim enough of a head turner as the Tuscan is, or the Jag a Brit mobile???

Or is there another option for 10-15k I havnt thought of..............dare i say porsche...........

Yeah, there's space behind the seats, but I never liked having atuff there - quite windy, and not secure. Boot is definitely big (deep), but roof panel is a bit of an awkward fit. It's not bad as a touer....just a bit of a faff.

What about a Monaro? Best of both worlds, much rarer and with a superchager, considerably quicker too.

In this company the XK would have to be an 'R' surely? I really like the XK, but there are rust issues as I understand it.

Up your budget? TVR T350T (Targa)?

A standard early XK8 is not a quick car, and the older ones are rusting badly now. I always wanted one but when it came time to spend the money it was too dated, too cramped, not fast enough, too fragile and too expensive to run for what it offered.

A late 4.2 XKR, on the other hand, is a very different proposition.

Why can you only spend 6k in a jag yet up to 15k on a TVR?

I read it that the budget was flexible. That's why I suggested the XKR. £8k would pick you up a tidy late 4.2 XKR
