Nigerian Guiness

I'd not come across this stuff before until Tesco this evening so I thought I'd sample, my god this stuff is good, and I had no idea they had a huge brewery near Lagos!

Not as nice as normal Guinness IMO.

Beers rarely taste good when the alcohol content gets that high.

I drink a fair bit of Guiness, this stuff is excellent, I couldn't session it like normal Guiness though......obviously.

I agree - It's good stuff. Well worth seeking out.

Not a session drink for sure - max 6 of those bottles......

The Brewdog Black Libertine Ale has that malty roasted flavour of Guinness but it's got a lot more going for it in the flavour department.

beer snob away - It's quite a while since i had some

I enjoyed it back in the day with dragon stout and such brews.

I remember it as having the quite a deep, malty flavour - but I was stoned most of the time so I am probably wrong.
I will be seeking some out and reporting back what the second version of me thinks.

The secret ingredients are that its brewed with Sorghum and Maize as well as regular malted barley. The two additional grains have a high native sugar content, which gets converted to alcohol, hence the increased strength.

It's wonderful as the base for a steak and ale pie!

I'm a massive fan of all types of beers as my gut will attest to, but I cant say I was overly impressed with the couple of Brewdog efforts I tried, punk IPA and something else. They weren't bad, but they weren't great either.

What I did like of theirs was an IPA they made for Tesco at about 9%, again cant remember the name but that was great.

+1 for Guinness foreign extra, I am a fan of this.

is that stuff brewed in nigeria, does it say on the bottle ??

had foreign extra before.. its like Guinness concentrate.. I don't think it was brewed in Nigeria though, can one find it in Tesco now ??

had a mate that lived in Nigeria for a bit, he said its their favourite beer out there!

The trouble with Brewdog (IMO) is they spend far too much time trying to be 'cool', which they should actually spend on making better beer. Currently their beer is hugely average as far as interesting stuff goes.

That said, I do like Punk IPA on occasion.

I'm a fan, what a great beer! Very different to the regular Guinness.

Probably my second favourite beer, after Peroni Gran Riserva.

I agree there standard range of Punk IPA, 5AM SAINT, DEAD PONY etc are nice but quite average.

When they do the occasional brew ( which are a bit pricey if your planning on having a binge) such as their Abstract series.

Then the flavours are on another planet.

If you donated blood in Nigeria in the early 70's you were offered a cup of tea or a bottle of Nigerian Guinness !

My preferred tipple was Star Lager, but unfortunately they weren't sponsors of the donation program.

Interestingly, Nigeria is the country in the world where Guinness is sold the most. Quite remarkable really.

The last time I donated blood in Ireland before I moved to the UK in 1997, I was offered a bottle of Guinness afterwards!
