Whyte Whitechapel - any good?

May buy this tomorrow. Don't know much about bikes but before I splash the cash is there any reason why I shouldn't?

I'd say it's over priced for the spec. A Boardman entry level hybrid is £100 cheaper & better specified than that bike, save for the brakes.

It's absolutely brilliant. I bought my wife the Carnaby recently - similar frame and spec. Light weight and fast. The 1x9 is brilliant too - makes a 2xAnything seem surprisingly over-complex.

It looks rather nice but depends what you want from it?? The detailed specification shows a lot of low end/budget components.

Square taper bottom bracket is perfectly usable but a really old design...

I am sure this is a fine bike to commute with but for a serious rider those components are in need of an upgrade.

Echo those comments that it is a tad pricey for what you get. You could have bought my custom flatbar cyclocross bike for £450 even though it was worth £1000+ sold it now...

Search eBay for some good deals.

Thanks all. Re ebay, I'll be buying this on the CTW scheme, so it has to be a new, non-discounted bike.

Otherwise, your thoughts echo what they told me in store. I could get better spec on another bike but Wtyte tend to lean towards better frames instead, which is noticeable in how light it is. Really want hydro discs too, so the cheapest Boardman with them is more expensive than this.

Personally I'm a big fan of Whyte, I find them to be very comfortable bikes and they really suite me personally (have also found them to be very helpful with any questions Ive had), as such Iv bought 2 hardtails and a full suspension bike in the last 3years.
