Truffles? What's that all about?
Discussion
Winter and Summer truffles (the black ones) are normally just added so people can say "Oh look, I have truffle on my dish" and there are a lot of people who will pay quite a bit extra for a dish with them on. A winter truffle, around the size of a golf ball, costs around £10!
The only truffles worth having are the white ones which should be coming to market in a couple of weeks as this year has been perfect for mushrooms. Ceps have been around in central Europe since August and there are a lot of them. Prices are around £23 a kilo which is about £10 to £15 cheaper than normal for this time of year.
I am hoping that there will be a glut of white truffles which means that they should be slightly more affordable which means more people can find out what the fuss is all about as they taste divine.
Having said all that, they are still far too expensive for what they are.
