WARNING... Misleading Porsche SC advert
Discussion
Hi there,
I am currently on the lookout for a reasonably priced / condition 911 Sc / 3.2
I stumbled across [one] on Ebay :
Now I'm definitely not one for bad mouthing or finger pointing but this one could catch you out...
Being advertised as a 1983 911 Sc - Sporting a 1987 personalised plate.
After no less than 14 calls to the garage speaking to two different guys, I was told that they were reliably informed of a top end engine rebuild.... Unfortunately no documents to support this?
I established the previous two garages stamped in the service schedule.. 2 calls to Loebank Porsche, (Albert very helpful more of a Yoda than mechanic) one call to Hartech Porsche, also very good.
Neither could find any record of the car. I returned with a chassis number - nope that didn't exist, I offered the previous owners Name - Nothing.
After this I then cancelled [someone] who was going to carry out an inspection on my behalf.
I then carried out most simple of checks on my iphone app It transpires that the reg is actually registered as a 1987 911. ??? What the hell?
Upon reporting this to the garage... It was a very simple "so you're not interested then' ..
Do I report this to the cops ?
Its a disaster waiting to happen for some poor soul that doesn't do their homework. ?
[Mod edit] Links removed. On a personal note, why bother the police? I would have thought an '87 911 instead of an '83 SC would be preferable. Regarding the work; "reliably informed" means nothing.

Since you can't use a personal plate to make a car appear newer, an E prefix like the one used on that car could never be legally used on a 1983 anything - you could have saved a lot of time just noticing that.Thats exactly what I told the garage... Their response (again vague) was We have the papers stating the plate change... as well as the original title stating april 15th 1983 as first registration...
Something doesn't add up - but as a garage surely they must have noticed !!?? Or at least done some checks of their own ?

Did you ask them what the previous reg number was?
It looks like they've thrown an old army blanket in the boot and the "slightly upgraded" steering wheel is nasty. I'd be looking elsewhere to be honest.
Edit, Interesting link above, thanks.

Neat ! The VIN quoted there makes it a 1983.
Could be as simple as a DVLA balls-up.....then again....

Cheers m4tti - seems like a good mark up from the new garage hey!
Let me google 'E911 GBD' for you. Or give it a go yourself
That's the information super highway for you
In fairness the interior doesn't look awful...and you could probably sell that plate and ask for the original reg to be reinstated.

Believe it or not I did try this!! but obviously wasn't paying enough attention. Thanks again it still makes for an interesting car just a few too many gaps for me.
