A Pleasant Surprise

I have had little in the way of night driving in my chim over the past years... they have nearly always been combines with a "need" to get somewhere and often splattered with rain.

This week I had the pleasure of a drive home from a pub dinner in the dark, roof down, no rain, no rush, no traffic - on country roads I know well (Surrey - Brockham to Nutfield via Leigh / Gatwick)

What an absolute joy it was too. The air just cool enough to make me appreciate the warm air flowing over the windscreen and into the cabin, the gorgeous soft glow of the dials, the dull sound of the V8 reverberating over the empty, silent, damp countryside.

The lights worked - I could have full beam most of the way if I had wanted - I even turned of the instrument lights for a while... just to work out "why?" (I didn't work out why) - the lights are so charming and unobtrusive.

Magical.

It's great when you can hook up a great drive like this, it doesn't too often but when they do they stick in your mind.

I'm the same, maybe 2 or 3 night drives a year. The whole experience is very good and really brings out a different aspect of these characterful cars. I can't figure out the reason for cutting dashboard lights either BTW.

People complain about crap lights on the Chim, but I don't see any issue with my standard lights.

Ditto. Had my first one in my new toy a few weeks ago coming back from Bournemouth, in the evening as the sun was setting. Lights worked very well and car was epic.

Funny I had my first ever dark evening drive home from a pub dinner also last night, top down beautiful dials at night as you say, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I also agree on the lights, I find them fairly good actually.
