Following on from the Spa thread, how much of a pain is it to get your car back to the UK if you render it undriveable abroad?

Not really a pain as such, just expensive. Expect to pay £1200-£2000 for a same/next day service depending on where you are in the UK obviously. The recovery guys at Spa have taken up a few cars in the past and we can generally find room in one of our trucks, but it usually involves driving something else home.

If you get European brake down cover they will bring you and the car back. You may even opt for a £500 parts and labour extra. Used it once from Spa but made the mistake to be too nice and managed to cross the channel and called the AA when in UK, but then lost my £500 towards labour and parts as i was back in uk frown

Blew my turbo on the Nurburgring a few years ago. Thankfully someone in my trip had dogs danglies cover and the car was recovered back to the UK at no expense, but I did have to get it trailered from Lincolnshire to Devon, but I was happy with that.

Around circuits, sometimes there can be groups of vehicles wanting recovery. I know mine came back to the UK actually in a lorry trailer along with about 7 or 8 other cars.

As long as you dont mention you've crashed. They generally wont cover a crash.

No recovery company will repatriate you after a crash uninsured as they would normally expect to claim on your road insurance for the transport.
