Lotus Exige S: Pic Of The Week

A little reminder of why we love Lotus so much in a desktop wallpaper

Even by Lotus's standards the past seven days have been fairly tumultuous. News of a planned workforce restructuring was followed by rumours (thankfully refuted) of the Evora's departure from America.

But having spoken with CEO Jean Marc Gales, we can't help but feel optimistic about the future. Gales has identified where the brand's strengths are and plans to develop those further. No wild expansion ideas but instead a careful evolution of what Lotus knows best.

And what does Lotus do better than fantastic sports cars? Exactly. So for POTW this week we have one of said excellent sports car being driven in a sporty fashion. An Exige S sideways on the Hethel test track. Go on, your desktop would appreciate it.

At first my face was serious and I was in awe.

But then I saw the train drifting link on the right hand side again and I had to laugh and click it one more time!

You couldn't call it (or anything based on the Elise platform) a pretty car, could you?

A lot of people buy silver cars because residual values might be slightly higher?
Also because...a lot of people buy silver cars. It's a dull circle!
I suppose silver is also inoffensive and named after a precious metal. But it's SO BORING!
But the original Silver Arrows were a product of weight saving and bare metal.
I've no idea when the first silver cars started to become really popular.

Nothing looks bad in British Racing Green. Nothing!

i can understand speccing silver for a dull german rep type car for easier resale, but for an exige? makes it look awful imo ...

I don't think I've seen one in silver, if I have I've forgotten it.

Yeah. That looks bad.

I'd say nothing looks bad in black. So long as it's clean.

Chaps, the Speciale will feature when the time's appropriate! Original images aren't exactly that exciting where seeing it on road or track most definitely will be.

That's sort of the logic with the Lotus. That lovely Motorsport Green one was just used for statics and dull tracking shots though. Shame.

Let's not forget that silver is the German racing colour.

Leary and in your face should be the only options.

You say that, but I saw a bright orange 4-series a few days ago and it's the first time I've thought anything other than "my god that's ugly" when presented with a 4-series. It actually looked quite nice.

Agreed - silly car = silly colour. Would be much better in dayglo orange or green. Let the daily 530d company car be silver...

BRG with yellow stripes please. Or I rather liked the LF1 edition.

Although, as with all hard-roofed Elise variants, the meeting of the top of the side window and the roof looks awkward.
