I have to plead ignorance and ask for help here. My current tyres are 265/40 R18 on the rear, but I'd like to change to 255/40 R18 to put winter tyres on (far more choice of tyre available).

If I buy another set of 18in alloys for the rear with the 255 tyres on, what changes if any need to be made when swapping these in for the 265/40 R18s? They are a fractionally narrower width, so do I need spacers? Does this depend on the length of the wheel bolt used?

Thanks in advance!

No you don't need spacers. I use 265/35/19 summer tyres and 255/40/18 winters without any issues.

OK, thanks. So the wheel bolts don't need to be fractionally shorter?

No because the wheels are the same size. Its only the tyres that are fractionally smaller.
