I'm currently considering a Cayman purchase and have been keeping an on the classifieds and reading the forums etc as I'm entirely new to the brand.

I'm leaning towards a new GTS but I'm not actually sure I like it aesthetically without seeing one in the flesh yet and probably prefer the look of the 'S'. It's not helped by when I'm on the configurator for the GTS that things I want clash with the GTS spec or require me taking out/off things like the interior or the PASM for SS.

So then I go back to looking at used S' prices and just can't understand how used prices can be so high;

Some cars with thousands of miles on them priced over £55k, surely they can't be far behind the list price? The red one at £64,490 seems insane when you can get a well specc'd GTS for that money which would surely hold it's money better over the next year or so as GTS' filter into the used market.

I'd expect a new car to tank in value in the first twelve months but looking at the S prices it doesn't seem the case or am I wrong?

I'm of the opinion that we are currently enjoying a hype in prices that will be relatively short-lived. This is only my opinion but if I was in the market to purchase a new (to me) car at the momement, I would exercise all the usual cautionary measures one takes when attempting not to take a massive hit.

That link is to the classifieds but you have set a minimum price parameter of £55k!

If you search for 2014 cars only with no min price, there are cars (2.7 versions) starting at £42k.

If you really want a 3.4 S but are willing to go back to 2013, they start at £42k, that's quite a discount for 12 months:

Edit: Even searching for "3.4" misses some S models out. Here's a black one (2013) for £44k with 2200 miles on it:

I set the minimum to £55k as I'm looking spending more than that on a new car and it's what the base GTS is before you add anything at all.

Even in the search you added, there's only one car near £42k with 12 on the clock and only four under £50k in total. My point was that even from £50k upwards, most of those cars can't be far behind the list price and are up to two years old....

Just thinking in my head that in 12 months time, will the used GTS's be sitting in the current £50k+ category and all the S' dropped off a cliff to £40k or below.

I'd probably buy a nice used S with a decent spec and low miles, if it was circa £50k but at £60k-£65k as currently listed then why wouldn't anyone just buy a brand new GTS that they can spec entirely themselves??
