Curses, I've been thwarted!

Driving home from our High Peak TVRCC Meet on Wednesday evening, I decided that the slight play in Austin's steering ( which manifested itself after the Blyton trackday ) was becoming worse.
I checked it out on Thursday & found the bottom u/j had some play in it, so I sent off for the Rally Design item no. RD820F forged u/j.
Very quick delivery, came in the post at lunchtime.
Easy enough job to do, just ensure that you mark up the splines where the u/j grooves go, to preserve the correct orientation on reassembly.
Unfortunately the new item is supplied without the clamping bolts, and because the new u/j's are chunkier than the old ones, the old bolts are about 0.25" too short, and I don't know if I can get the correct length HT bolts & new stiffnuts until Monday
I was hoping to have a lovely surprise Wellesbourne breakfast & meet the nice witch, but I'm scuppered. It's as if she knew!
Oh well, at least those that do go tomorrow will enjoy their day without having me to worry about

y nuts & bolts. Thanks Chris, but I was just wondering if the bolts I would prefer to fit are available from B&Q.
I reckon HT plain shamk bolts are more suitable than ordinary setscrews in this case, because it takes quite a high torque to clamp the u/j's onto the shaft splines. I wouldnt want one shearing off.

Perfect directional contol now re-established, with zero play in the steering.
This morning I got a couple of M8 x 50mm HT bolts from Pope's, my local engineering suppliers, and cut them down to 40mm.
The problem with the replacement thicker forged u/j was that at normal torque loading, the clamp bolts were not closing up the slot in the u/j sufficiently to clamp securely onto the splined shaft, still leaving a lot of play, both axially & side to side. That's why I wanted high tensile bolts.
With the extra two white knuckles of torque they allow, they all tightened up nicely.
But I did miss my Wellesbourne bacon
However, today's road testing was partial compensation I guess.
Perfect directional contol now re-established, with zero play in the steering.

Yes, you are quite correct in judging that I would have chosen the tea option.
Coffee is for croissants, which have no place in a Full English Breakfast.

I will forward all the bank details as requested but it would be better if I do not share them on the forum as there maybe non TVR S types lurking who could plunder the coffers... I am not sure about my first pet - she never told me her name.
