Hi if doing some paint spraying to touch up your car. Does it matter if the primer is darker then your top coat? Will the top coat still cover it ok?

No, but you might have to use a lot of colour coat to cover it!
I use a light grey on most colours & a white primer under whites & some other pale solids & metallic.

Thanks I have sanded the area down some of it is to bare metal. I may not now get time to prime it for 5 days, till next weekend. Will rust form on the metal in this time?

I will be surprised if surface rust has not arrived before weekend with bare metal

Would I get away with sanding it down again then?

Just lash a guide coat of primer or zinc 182 until next weekend to hold off the corrosion

And are zinc primers better at preventing the reoccurrence of rust over normal primers?

Thanks would it matter that I'd be applying at about 5 oclock due to work. Will it setting over night cause a problem. If it gets damp etc?

no, just get the hairdryer out and cure it off. its just to give you a bit of protection until you have the time to do it properly

Thank you. I have bare metal in places were I am spraying and the original primer still on in overs Didn't need to go back to the bare metal here. Is this ok?

it is, but you need to ensure you feather it out properly else you will see the edges when you paint it in colour

Thanks how do you feather it out? Is this when applying the top coat?

The top coat is the easy bit, the finish of it will depend on the prep you put in prior.

If you are trying to blend areas of original paint into bare metal and new primer then you have to use varying and diminishing grades of paper. Maybe use high build primer.

I am not too botherd about then finish. I just hope it will look better then before rust coming through. I have sanded down to clean metal is there any need/ as an extra precaution. To put rust converter/encapsulator on the metal before priming?

Would rust convert on clean metal I have sanded to be a good idea as an extra precaution? Or could this cause problems. I.e it not setting right because no/not enough rust in the metal?
