bks is the word!

I have managed to get a patch of tyre goo (the sort MINI supply you with instead of a spare wheel) onto the (cloth) front passenger seat. I picked up the whole compressor etc and leant inside to unplug the power lead... I have tried wiping it off with a cloth and some basic upholstery cleaner but it does nothing as its gone all gunky and sticky. You can kind of pick bits off but it wont all come off easily. Car has now been left at the garage for the tyre to be replaced anyway.

Is there anything out there that will break down/dissolve this stuff? Im thinking some kind of alcohol or acetone? I don't what is actually in the tyre goo.

Can anyone help please?

Dont apply anything with guesswork, take it to a professional valeter and ask them, they should know.

Yeah I don't want to risk damaging the upholstery and causing an unforseen chemical reaction! When you say professional valetor, do they exist these days or do they tend to call themselves detailers these days?

Is it possible to buy and DIY fit parts of seat upholstery. It's the wife's car, I might be in the dog house if I can't sort it lol.

Pipe freezer spray may work, freeze it and then it should flake off.

Tar and glue remover to remove the worst of it, then scrub the seat with G101 and wet-vac out the moisture.

Jacko - not sure the freezing method would work, if you could see it it just looks like it would worsen it. It's not a big blob of gunk. It's like it's had glue spilt in it.

Nate, is there a tar/glue remover that you would reccomend. Obviously needs to be safe to use on cloth!

Thanks for suggestions everyone!

Wet vac in one hand, trigger bottle of water/ G101/ tar and glue remover in the other.
Whilst vacuuming the stain spray it with the trigger bottle. You'll be amazed at what you can do. smile

Well it is goo that you put in your tyre wink

This g101 stuff says for exterior use only, will it be okay to use on cloth seats?
