Right, any suggestions on how to remove this safely for me and the car?

Sunlight "welded" for eight years, especially the insert for the recovery card.

Peel it off slowly.

Then use thinners or your mrs's nail varnish remover to remove the residue.

Heat it gently with a hairdryer and peel off slowly.

Same as for any other stuck on item. Get a hair dryer and warm the disc holder up, not too close to the screen though. After a minute or so it should peel right off. Simple.

This or similar:

That's the one I've used - can't remember where I bought it but not Lakeland and in a real shop - and works great.

And what about the plastic residue left on the screen?

Methylated spirit or isopropyl alcohol should take care of it.

Do like the rest of the public will and leave it their for the rest of time.

I have already removed mine, as previous poster said, use some Meths or thinners on the glue residue, I thine used Auto Glym Glass Polish and it is back to just being glass.

I've done mine and got the residue off using the sticky stuff remover linked above.

You can buy it in Halfords.

White spirit is useless these days, as is paint brush cleaner the sheds sell instead of thinners.

Nail varnish remover is the stuff for the job.

Made short work of the myriad of Slovenian highway vignettes on my screen, pliable enough that it will curve with the screen unlike a Stanley blade...
