Cartier serial numbers, help please?

I have been told personally and via the Internet that the Serial numbers on the rear of a Cartier wrist watch gives no particular information, it is used by Cartier to ID a watch, it's ownership and respective service history. It will not give specific information regarding the year of manufacture, the model etc. Can anyone confirm that this is the case?

That is true yes, totally randomised serials across all models and has been the case since they started serialising watches.
