Leaking brake cylinder

Noticed some signs of leaking brake fluid last week in the cylinder:



Is this sort of leak repairable or better just to replace the cylinder?

where is it leaking from?

If it's from the joint were the reservoir clicks in to the top, you might be able to fit new seals.

If it's one of the brake pipes, it might just need a "tweak" tighter, or it might need a new fitting.

It wouldn't be normal for a fault in the main master cylinder seals, to cause leakage to the outside of the cylinder. Is the cylinder cracked or corroded?

You need to find where the leak is coming from, before you go spending money on a new m/c.

You may be able to get new reservoir seals from the local Ford dealer. If not let me know; I might have an old master cylinder somewhere but it will take a bit of finding.

Mine just started leaking from the reservoir seals. Bought a repair kit from biggred4u on ebay. Fits Saab / Fiesta 22.2 mm dia cylinders. About £18. Includes all the seals. Reservoir seals a really tight fit. All sorted now. Andy

That sounds just the ticket. Do you know which version I should order on eBay? Quite a few to choose from...

Perhaps it is the photo, but I think I can see fluid around the horizontal joint in the reservoir, are you sure the reservoir is not the cause?

Hi Paul - yes it 'could' be coming from the reservoir. I replaced the lid to the reservoir during the rebuild with a new and smarter one. Have noticed the occasional drip but thought I had tightened and stopped it. May just be that it's still leaking fluid - I'll take another look!

Stuart. I bought M1108. My set up is actually Saab but the seals are the same for the Ford unit. I only needed the reservoir seals anyway. I have a spare reservoir for your Master cylinder if any use. Obviously used. I bought it to get rid of the remote reservoir but in the end I left it as it was. Andy
