no, but I doubt it's the engine, the Gt3's caught fire due to oil dropping on the CAT after a engine fail.

most fires are oil leaks and hot cats in cars make any oil leak a fire risk.

I never realised the proximity of filler to manifold/exhaust was so close on the 918. The filler can sometimes be quite rigid and unwieldy and difficult to position, not to mention the prospect of fuel vapour igniting.

The heat of an exhaust wont cause spilt fuel to ignite. Its auto ignition temp will not be reached by a hot exhaust on the outlet which is the coolest part of the exhaust. Headers is a different matter but i suspect Porsche have them well shrouded (!?!?!?)
And i tend to be very careful when filling up due to scratching the car or getting petrol on the body work so if you apply the same thinking then it should be no different than filling you petrol strimmer or mower after a long run.

As things stand, user error seems more likely surely, fire on the filler side and proximity to rather hot bits.

If more cars however have this issue that's probably a big problem for Porsche indeed though...

All interesting, but pure speculation. But yes, the filler is alarmingly close to the exhaust!
