Had to get the bus this morning
Discussion
Car in for MOT, so what the heak I can get the bus to work after dropping it off. I have never noticed just how close to each other bus stops are, some of them are less then 250 yards apart. Have people lost the ability to walk? Anything less than a mile I walk, some of these people stop a bus to travel 3 stops!!!
It just drove home how public transport just doesn't work.

Indeed. I suspect some bright person at the council thinks that to make the bus more popular you have to have more bus stops so there's always one close by but it actually makes it worse as the bus stops all the time making the journey much longer.
Also, a lot of people get free bus passes (OAPs and school kids) and (at least around here) paid for ticket prices are heavily in favour of daily/weekly/monthly tickets (rather than single/return journey tickets) which also encourages short (1 or 2 stop) journeys.

I live on a 'hoppa' bus route which you can flag down between bus stops.
I don't wait for it but it's quite handy if it happens to be passing because it shaves about 5 minutes off my journey to work.
The last 2 stops are less than 200 yards apart. One is a white 'compulsory' stop for all bus routes that pass along and the next one is the terminus.

Doesn't that illustrate how it does work?It just drove home how public transport just doesn't work.
What if the person is old / with children / disabled / has shopping / etc?
Where I live, there are bus stops which are not even signed....it seems the local folk just know where to put themselves for the bus to stop
This outraged me the first time i moved and my then girlfreind (now wife) couldnt stop laughing at how rediculous I found it all
One bus stop is at the junction of my road, so if the bus stops no-one can move (because there is a traffic island as well). it all seems stupid and very non-health and safety.

I might get on a bus once a year, to go to work, to then go out for usual christmas drinks.
I'm amazed how expensive they are- £2.50 one way.
And obviously, in a true PH way, I'm appalled at the state of people and their general manner on the buses. I get that the poor have to travel somehow, but surely they could have a wash and behave in some sort of civilised manner.
I had to speak to some youth about putting his feet on the seats (he was sat in a double set up with the seats facing each other)
I don't know if he, or the other passengers were more shocked that someone had remonstrated with him.

Come and get a bus in Central London at rush hour! More iPhones and double cuffed Thomas Pink's than you can shake a Prada man bag at - plenty of lovely tot and often, bang up to date hybrid hardware to keep the nerds amused. For me it's about £25 a day cheaper than taking the car (parking in Covent Garden, forget it) and about half the time (15 -20 mins vs nearly an hour for driving and finding somewhere to park).
Absolute no brainer. Far nicer than the tube - I love the bus!

First time I got on a bus in London I noticed this too.
As soon as it had pulled out it was pulling back in for the next stop.
Some tube stops in London are the same. There is even walking maps which tell you how far it is to the next station on foot. By the time you get down to the platform, got on the tube, off at your stop and back to the surface you coul have walked it quicker. As soon as it had pulled out it was pulling back in for the next stop.

As for the OPs question, yes some of the stops seem close together, but do you think there might be a reason for this other than laziness?

It just drove home how public transport just doesn't work.
Because the public are getting on and using it?I'd say that shows it works.. unless you mean it shows how public transport doesnt work the way you imagined it would.
What exactly is your problem with how other people use public transport?

2) I don't want to die
3) Not keen on the dying thing
4) Would love to see my wife and kids again
5) My wife won't let me in case I die
6) Death is quite likely
7) Did I mention the safety aspect?
Cycling in Central London? Mental.
