Still no GPS though. I could live without the constant increase in absolute performance to gain GPS tagging. Not sure why they haven't included this. Do you know a way that I might be able to take pics with a GoPro and tag the pics using the GPS receiver in my phone?

I can see the £99 doing well North of the border. For the rest of us, I'd like to see higher frame rates for the 4K stuff before buying.

Watchman - if you have a Garmin cycle/run computer, you can overlay this (gpx file) onto a video image (from my go-pro),
using 'Garmin VIRB Edit' software

Does requires you to manually synchronise, garmin to go-pro(?) image.

But does allow you to see sensor read outs (eg speed, cadence, hr, route map etc) on playback.

Thanks - I saw that whilst looking at the Gamrin VIRB camera. I don't have any Garmin products so I hoped I might use the GPS from my phone but really, the Garmin VIRB looks like it has the GoPro beat for me, except that there's a slight fish-eye quality to stills taken with that camera.

What I really want is a reasonable-quality stills camera, affixed to my cycle helmet, that I can "trigger" from either a button on my handlebars or wrist. I do a lot of family cycling and just want something convenient to capture the places we visit. There's nothing like this in the market so I thought a GoPro might be suitable because I could either sample pictures off the video, or trigger stills using my phone or an Android-Wear device.

The stripped down 'Hero' looks decent - lack of screen might be an issue though (unless I've missed something?).

They are great little camera's which are almost indestructible in their cases! (except firmware..). I just wish they'd do a low profile one. Less important for cycling but for skydiving the boxy shape really does put me off them.

Having the screen on the new cameras, will that mean that battery will drain even faster, or can screen be turned off.

As far as I can tell the screen is on the Silver version, doesn't appear on the black from looking at the pics on the gopro website.

I was under the impression (and may well be wrong) that at the moment 4k is pretty much a waste of cash : real normal HD is just coming of age??

I'd have liked to have seen a 'white' edition - same spec as the silver but without the LCD/touchscreen.

I'm temped by the £99 version (West of the Border here) I don't have anything to show 4k on, plus I'm sure it burns through 5GB of storage a minute - and they accept up to 32GB cards - so you'll need to limit your action to six and a half minutes at a time - I'm prepared to call it a gimmick at this point - maybe in a few years when 4k TVs and monitors are more mainstream and GoPro can accept those massive 500GB SD cards and they don't cost £500 each then it might be worth while - 2019 I'd guess.

Wish they'd change the shape, mounting a box to your helmet really does make you look like a muppet. Struggling to decide between the Shimano offering, the Garmin VIRB and the Countour 3 and now this....hmmm!

I was thinking of playing it. No question of editing it at the moment, but I can play it and be amazed.

Technology progresses and 4K is part of that. Better resolution, higher frame rates, improved codecs and better colour would cover all the options. So that's 4K, HEVC, 120 fps and 10 bit colour as the target. We'll see how much of that we get.

Ok think I get it.
Does it use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to the phone?
The £99 cut-down job doesn't seem to have any Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity.

Although I think these GoPro's are utterley fantastic devices in all the many applications (car vids on youtube, bike vids etc) personally I've never been tempted to purchase one.

At £99 though, it becomes a cheap gadget, so I'm in, cracking for those who aren't that serious about it but would have one at the right price.
