Need help 7k hot hatch / sports saloon
Discussion
So my dreams of buying a new fiesta St will have to be put on hold for the next year or two, as I just can't make the numbers add up unfortunately.
However I do have around 7k to play with when I trade in / sell my current car and the money I have saved so I was just wondering what you guys would recommend. Bear in mind I am only 23 and live inner city so insurance is still pricey but not ridiculous.
I have the current cars on my radar:
RS 200/197 (cup most likely)
Astra / Corsa VXR (depends what I can get for budget)
Warm BMW / Audi?
If anyone has another idea or any opinions / experience with what I have mentioned I would be eager to hear.
Cheers guys

I don't understand...the cars you list look eminently more appealing than a Fiesta ST. How can you justify one of them financially but not the ST? I'd imagine if you do the sums for older car running costs vs finance/depreciation on an ST you can justify what you want?!
I thought the same but I don't think it will work out. I will be out of pocket in the region of around 8k but without a car at the end of the term so have nothing to then use to get the next car. However if I buy one of these used cars around 4 years old I will still have a 3k at the end to use as a deposit for the next car.Tuscan63 said:

Can't you just stick a certain amount aside in a separate account each month for your next lease deposit in 24-36(?) months time? Then enjoy reliable hassle-free fixed cost motoring in the car you really want?I would highly recommend a sports saloon over a hothatch. In particular a RWD one.
The principle fun to be had is not hanging the tail out round roundabouts, performing powerslides, or having excellent control of the weight balance during cornering.
It is from lording it over FWD enthusiasts, who you can now deride as shopping trolley drivers, and laughing with glee as their axles tramp up and down whilst trying to keep pace with you.

Late E46 330i? You might even get an early M3 but it would likely be ropey but you might get a good one. Also looks like you'd get an early E90 for £7k too.
I was going to recommend a E46/E90 330i too, reasonable performance and a nice enough place to sit and very good all round cars imo, a little steady in the looks department especially the E90 but a lovely smooth straight six to enjoy though. Edited by MissChief on Monday 29th September 16:22

E90s without the M-sport trinkets are looking increasingly appealing. When they first appeared, they were so "bloated", I hated them...now they're positively svelte relative to new cars!tomjol said:

For my money, a 330 would win over a 130 any day. I think my car should look at least interesting from the outside, and every time I went to get in it, the 1-series would just remind me that I couldn't get what I really wanted.
Surely the 1er is more "interesting" looking than the pretty conventional looking 3er? I believe chassis wise they're pretty similar and the 1er is lighter (and I want a hatch), so it'd be the ugly duckling for me, but each to their own!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
