New owner, registration trasnfer, new tax rules all at once!

Hello all,

I'm supposed to be picking my new vehicle up on Thursday or Friday if all goes well, i've set plans around this date and really need the car.

I will have waited 2 weeks without a vehicle on Friday.

I have never changed registrations and have zero expereince on it.

The previous keeper sent off the correct information to the DVLA on Tuesday 23rd September.

Apparently the car was registered directly to the private registration so a new one will have to assigned and created.

How long does the DVLA take to do a registration transfer normally?

All information I can find is outdated since the DVLA move to Swansea.

If I could I would ask the owner to write a note saying I am the owner of the car etc. but because of not knowing the registration I cannot insure the car.

Currently on the DVLA website there is no option for a new keeper to tax the car on their 'BETA' service.

It's a difficult situation.

If anyone can offer advice it would be appreciated.

Why not phone the DVLA and ask?

That's the first thing I tried, it always goes straight to automated message.

I was just hoping for peoples experiences on the matter.
