Hi all,

On Saturday 13th September, I purchased a new (used) car.

The vehicle was wearing private plates, and is in the process of having the plates changed back to the originals - therefore I was told I couldn't have the vehicle until the DVLA return the V5.

The bloke from the garage said that the documents were sent to the DVLA on Thursday 11th September, and should take approximately 10 working days.

Using the DVLA reg check tool (https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla), I can confirm the plate change has now taken place, however still no sign of the V5 frown

I know I'm being impatient, but just wondering if anyone else out there is experiencing the same wait? Or has recently received their V5 after "x" amount of working days?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, this wait is TORTURE!!! #firstworldproblems

Thanks in advance smile

It's annoying, I recently had the same wait as I removed the plate from my old car before I could sell it. The DVLA state that it can take up to 4 weeks. I generally have received V5s within 2-3.

Unfortunately for you September is a peak month with the new registration plate so the DVLA always run really slow due to the increased volume of registrations.

2-3 weeks usually, but in September add another week or two.

3 months after my Mrs bought her mazda2 she said she still only had a new keeper slip. Assumed the dealer had forgotten (and probably binned it by now) so filled the form to apply for a new one. Post it off and the next day the missing v5 arrives. Thought that we would receive the duplicate after a couple of weeks. 2 months later still nothing!

Bought my new car on the 7th, I received the tax refund from my old one & new V5 on the 24th. So just over two weeks.

I waited nearly 4 weeks last month and it was only a straight change of ownership.

Thanks for the replies everyone; I really appreciate it.

Waiting for the V5 wouldn't be a problem if I actually had my new car, but the fact nothing can be done until the DVLA pull their finger out is frustrating to say the least!
