Just a quick one, what is the safe range of tyre widths I can fit to a 8.5 & 9" wheel?

The wheels I'm looking at come with 255 wide winter tyres on a 9" rim and I currently have 245 wide summers on a 8.5" rim. I'd like to swap the tyres over, so 245 on a 9" rim and 255 on a 8.5" rim. Would this be ok?

Depends on the tyre profile and wheel size.

Smaller sizewalls have less range.

Both 19" and 40 profile, so 245/40/19 and 255/40/19.

Depending on the profile, anything from a 225 to a 255 should be a good fit.

It also depends on the make (and possibly even model?) of tyre. Most manufacturers have data on their websites on what tyres will fit what rims.

E.g: http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires_101/customizing/... although that doesn't seem to cover wheels that large, for some reason.
