Just changed the bulbs in all the instruments to blue..... turned on the lights and hey presto, they are still green? Anyone know how to get round this?

I think that the instruments contain a green lens. Blue light through a green lens remains green, in order to get a blue light the green lenses will have to be removed.

+1 !

Older cars have green caps mounted in the instruments. Maybe they are removable but most of the times they are mounted from the inside.

The green lenses are fairly common, my old Landy had them too.
Be careful if you decide to break the lenses out. It's possible but I irreparably damaged my Landy fuel gauge getting the lense out of it.
I successfully got all the others out and replaced the bulbs with LED which are a massive improvement, and well worth the effort.
