does PH have a legal team?
Discussion
Do the moderators consult any kind of legal advisors before removing topics?
If they don't, should they?
In my opinion topics are getting removed due to panic moderating and it will ultimately affect the dynamic of the forums and cause a decline in their use.
Rather than going through a thread and removing any 'iffy' comments on touchy subjects they just remove the whole lot, without really knowing if the main thread is really a problem.
its just so frustrating that we have access to so many different opinions and it's a great discussion forum only to have threads torn down without any proper thought/professional judgements.
Someone gonna comment about costs involved in getting someone on staff that can give a professional judgement? - how about how much revenue the site brings in? it wouldn't be half what it is now without the popularity of the forums so how about investing in that side too?

I believe it's not uncommon for a thread to temporarily disappear for cleaning, then reappear a while later.
Any examples ?
Well its gone now but the thread i started with a simple Yes/No poll asking what peoples opinions were as to if they thought the McCanns had anything to do with maddies disappearance.Any examples ?
I know its a touchy subject but it doesn't mean its automatically off limits

It's certainly been hinted at before, along with comments about PH being liable for content posted if they don't respond to complaints/reports. .
Personally, I would understand if they just closed all threads about the case - it must cause an inordinate amount of moderation for something in no way related to the core purpose of the site.

but the 'core purpose' of the site wouldn't be anywhere near as big/successful as it is without the forums.Personally, I would understand if they just closed all threads about the case - it must cause an inordinate amount of moderation for something in no way related to the core purpose of the site.
Forums = traffic = hits = £
It was me that deleted your thread.
The wording was "Did the McCanns have something to do with the disappearance?" this would without doubt leave us open to legal action. Yes we do err on the side of caution and I suspect any thread leading a similar way would also be perceived as being libellous so it's best that they aren't started.
Thanks
Nathan

Doesn't really need a legal team to figure out that isn't really suitable discussion on the UK's leading motoring forum. Fine if you want to chat about it down the pub with your mates but seriously, putting it in writing on a popular and closely watched web site!I know its a touchy subject but it doesn't mean its automatically off limits

no, you're right. you'd better let the rest of the forums know that its supposed to be just for motoring.
Quick count of the non motoring threads - 7,589,510 posts.
i got bored after that.
You might find these other PH / Maddie / legal threads interesting. You might not.

Maddie is far from current affairs now, so makes me wonder why you started such a thread now other than to stir things up, and my main point stands, it doesn't take a legal team to figure out your thread was a bad idea!
Its all over the news today. it's extremely topical. I started a thread on what people on the internets views were based on the fact that the met have announced TODAY that they are investigating people on the internets views.how much more topical do you want?

Its all over the news because they are getting legal with internet trolls and forums posting potentially defamatory comments.how much more topical do you want?
You then post "Did the McCanns have something to do with the disappearance?" with a poll on a massive forum that ranks very highly on Google results and are now querying why it was deleted?

The poll was not a green light for defamatory comments. i even asked that it just be a Yes or a No poll. one would hope that just Yes or No would have been acceptable to get an idea how a large cross section of people thought.I'm sure the Sun will be doing a very similar poll (or premium rate phone poll) and publishing the results also.
