This happened yesterday in Earls Colne Essex, A polish man pulled onto his drive from the road, he then failed to stop, hitting a brick wall, causing it to fall on to his neighbors car, the car owner came out and was told the other gentleman had no insurance as "insurance was expensive" She called Essex police who attended, they then told her that because the crash happened on private property there is nothing they can do, they then left.

Is what they said correct? he was driving on the road prior to pulling onto his drive.

Unless the car is SORNed it needs to be insured.

Did the police really say what was claimed? It seems unlikely.

Doesn't stop him from being liable for the damage. It just makes it more difficult to get him to stump up for repairs.

You're assuming it's registered in the UK and taxed.

Simple question by Essex Police
"Did you drive your car to this location?"
A "Yes" (or if denied who did)
Question "When did you drive it here"
Book him for time/date and road leading to drive.
It can be done. I have used it in th past.

Not possible.

I would be more inclined to believe if the story was that the police didnt turn up. But as anti-police as I am, even I know that if a policeman attended the address, he/she could never have given such a response.
